Harvesting Solar Power From Outer Space

Is this too good to be true?

What do you think of the idea of harvesting solar power from outer space?  It's a place that is unaffected by shadows and clouds, so the power would be available every day.  This technology would work on the theory that solar satellites would "beam" back solar energy using electromagnets.  This energy would then be converted to electricity and then be transferred to power grids.

Unfortunately, getting satellites into space isn't exactly inexpensive.  And the robotic technology to build the satellites isn't yet available.  AND the price tag would be roughly one billion dollars.  But, if someone is willing to foot the bill, this could happen in the next ten years.
