    Read about the correct angle for solar panels and just use your latitude of 34.617 in the equation.

    thanks for answering. I'm a novice to Solar, and I'm building a log cabin to live in and I'll use solar,wind and some grid. But just to get a good understanding of some of it. what I did was I took some solar lights, then took off the batteries, so I complete solar power. I hooked one up in direct sunlight to my multimeter, it read 2.29, now when I hook two together I still get the same reading. Shouldn't I get double?

    Ken,
    It depends on how you "hooked two together". If you connect positive on one to the negative on the other (also called series) then you add the Volts together. If you connect positive to positive and negative to negative (also called parallel) then add the Amps together.

    You can check out our sunlight hours guide for different areas (including SLC) and the number of sun hours you can expect on our Sun Hours/Day page.

    location= kingston NY

    roof faces south,
    dimentions are 50x15 (upslope)
    slope is 5/12

    distance from pv j-box on roof to inverter is 120' from inverter to house circut box is 50,
    H CIRCUIT BOX IS 200A sq.d homeline
    load=12000kwh per year,
    desing a grid -tie pv system to service this load use a sharp 224 pv modules and fronius 5100 inverters

    1, calculate how menny watts of pv is taakes to service this load,
    2,need to figuer out what series string choices for the fronius inverter,
    3, need to figure out how menny series strings i need in parallel to get the right # of watts you calculated in (1) get as close as posible please,
    4,figuer out wire size for wires from the pv inverter by
    a, calculating the volage drop,
    b,finding the required ampacity,
    c,choosing the bigger wire,

    5,same as 4 but for wires from inverter to house circuit box
    6,do i have to down size the main braker in my home circuit box?

    what % of the load will the system serve?

    I have my total watts figured out 16,000 capacity.
    The next problem is, all of them will not be needed at the same time.
    Most of them will be very minimal all at the same time. It says in my curriculum
    to figure the hours running or needed per day but then it doesn't say how to
    figure out how many panels needed or the size of any of the supporting equipment
    needed.

    Solar panel size and #.
    Inverter size
    Meter size
    Battery size and #
    Switch gear/disconnect size.
    etc.

    How do you calculate the distance between solar panel (PV) rows on a flat roof so that no shade is on the back panels in winter (when the sun is the lowest in the sky).

    I have 2-75watt solar panels and 1-120watt solar panel, an inverter, and charge controller for 400watts. I am in a rented place now and would like to know how to reduce my electric bill. I have used my 2-75watt solar panels to pump water from a well before at my last place but don't have to worry about that now. The rented place has a electric stove, refrigerator about an 18cu. ft. (not mine), and a new washing machine. I have a dryer but try to now use it much. I am currently using about 774 KWh per month.
