Advancing Solar Technology spreads "around the world" with boating
The first practical solar boat was built in England in 1975. Since then, the technology has expanded to the point that by 1995, passenger boats with PV (photovoltaic) panels started to appear and are now being used extensively.
In 1996, Kenichi Horie, made the first solar powered crossing of the Pacific Ocean. During
the winter of 2006-07, the first solar powered crossing of the Atlantic
Ocean was made in a catamaran.
Plans are now being made to circumnavigate the globe by the year 2009. This shows the
ever-increasing advancement of this technology.
