Toyota Gets Greener

Major Companies move towards Solar Powered Cars because of high gas prices

According to a press release from the Nikkei, Toyota is going to get even greener. They have already sold petrol-electric hybrids, but now they are going to offer solar powered air conditioning units, as of next year, on some high end models.

The solar panels on the roof of the new Prius models can provide two to five kilowatts of electricity.

Toyota plans to purchase the panels from Japanese electronics maker, Kyocera.

Sales of the Prius have been booming, thanks to high gas prices and fear of global warming. Hybrids will deliver better mileage by switching from the petrol-fuelled engine to an electric motor.

Toyota is also looking to expand the solar power technology to include use of solar energy in their production plants.

I wonder if people will have to start parking their cars outside to maximize the benefit from these new solar panels on the car?
