Some Don'ts with Solar Power

Things to Keep in Mind

There are some don'ts that should be kept in mind when planning your solar powered home. If you are using the passive solar means of heating your home, be sure NOT to use roof angled glass. This would be the case in any climate or building. The reason for this is that in the summer it creates a solar "furnace", thus overheating your home, and in the winter with the sun at a lower angle, it can't catch the sun's radiation or it is reflected off the glass. When warm air rises, it touches the glass and is then conducted outside and does no good. Vertical equator-facing glass is a much better option for blocking summer heat and daylighting.
